This link provides connections between smaller producers, direct markets and Value adders.
Trying to compete with large national suppliers is not easy but with the help of fresh food link we can be put in touch with smaller niche markets that better suit our supply and marketing.
They also help us to source local products from small landholders and producers that enables us to maintain our stock during all growing seasons.
“There are almost 60,000 rural landholders in Western Australia with properties of less than 100ha, Many of them grow top quality produce but, because of issues like lower volumes and continuity of supply, getting that produce to market can sometimes be a challenge. Smaller growers and businesses also often lack the time, resources and networks to explore many of the opportunities that exist, so the Fresh Food Link project is lending a helping hand. The Fresh Food Link service has both a register of small landholders, as well as a database of interested farmers markets, wholesalers, retailers and processors. Its role is to match potential partners and help both parties come up with innovative solutions to capture market opportunities. The Minister said Fresh Food Link will also help meet the growing demand for quality locally-produced food. “The explosion in the popularity of farmers markets across the State demonstrates the strong demand for fresh local produce, by giving small landholders greater opportunity to get their produce to market, it is also opening up far greater choice for consumers.
